                  Borderlands: ‘Real World’ and Super Natural

      In the film Spirited Away, the protagonist (Chihiro) crosses numerous boundaries, thresholds, and literal doorways before she is able to gain the knowledge and wisdom that she needed in order to free herself, as well as her parents from the spirit world. Chihiro is the heroine ( female with courage throughout the movie), who is ten years old. Her and her parents were moving into a new house, when they stumbled across a mysterious looking tunnel. The mother and father wanted to check it out but Chihiro was scared; they all went through anyway. They thought that it was an old abandoned amusement park. There was food sitting out, cooked and smelling good. Chihiro parents started eating the food and thought they should pay later. As chihiro walked away, she ran into a boy name Haku. He warned her to leave before it gets dark. When she returned to her parents, they had been turned into pigs. Scared little Chihiro ran off but it was too late because it had turned dark and the spirits have come out.

     Haku informed Chihiro that the only way she can save her parents and leave the spirit world is if she got a job; if she didn’t find work the witch of the spirit world Yubaba would turn her into pigs as well. Chihiro went to the boiling room to speak to Kamaji about a job. He was a spider type spirit and sent her to the witch, Yubaba. Chihiro had to get pass a bunch of spirits that wanted her to ‘turn’.

          When she reached Yubaba, she was turned down. Chihiro didn’t take no for an answer and got a job at the spa like place. In the Supernatural world anything is possible that wouldn’t normally happen. She had seen spirits walking around at night. There was even a spirit named No Face that was eating people. Supernatural is basically attributed to any force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature. The magic that was endured in the film Spirited away was amazing. In the ‘real world’ as we call it, things are just plain so it’s cool to read on things that can’t normally happen. When we read or watch something from the supernatural, it allows us to experience something we can’t; The characters feels it for us.

         In the movie ‘Stardust’ directed by Matthew Vaughn, There were many different archetypes but the one that actually stood out to me was the lover archetype. The reason I chose lover is because, through the entire movie Tristan Thorn is such a lover boy. He is ‘in love’ with a women named Victoria that is about to be married to another man soon but still he wanted to win over her love. She didn’t seem too interested in him until they saw a fallen star. Tristan tells her that he would go and bring her the star to show his love to her.

        

         Along the way to finding this star, he crosses over a wall into the magical world. He crashes into the star and finds out that this female named Yvaine. Tristan ties her up and tells her that he will take her to Victoria to show his true love to her. Little did they know that the witches wanted Yvaine heart to eat so they can have their beauty back forever.

          

          They went through so much while trying to get to Victoria. The witch was after them, trying to kill them. Even through the madness, Tristan remained a lover simply because he did not kill anyone. He then fell in love with Yvaine. He tried to still keep his word with Victoria by bringing her a piece of the star (some of Yvaine’s hair) and he told her that he wasn’t in love with her. At the end of the movie Tristan found what true love with. True love cannot be bought (like he tried to do with Victoria) it a feeling that you would get and know when it happen.

                                Lover Archetype

While reading "What story are you living" by Carol S. Pearson, they introduced the lover archetype. Anyone that loves someone or something deeply can be considered a lover. The reason I chose this archetype is simply because I enjoy love stories/movies. The lover archetype can turn into the destroyer because of the Love and Death theme.

         One example of the Lover archetype vs. the destroyer archetype is when two people are in a relationship. The lover (negative trait) would want to be clingy and obsessed with the other partner. The other partner would want to get out of that relationship. As the destroyer (positive trait) he would break up with the clingy lover and move on.

                                             Mid-Term Reflection

       During the six weeks in this class, I have learned many things. Before this class, I always thought I knew everything about poems but reality hit. Every time I read a poem I thought it was the artist speaking to the reader but its not. The author is the one who wrote the actual poem but he/she can portray themselves as whoever they want to be. For example; I write a poem about a guy loving a girl, using "I" as the male. That doesn't mean I'm gay, it just means I'm speaking from a guys point of view. What was very interesting to me was the choice of poems that the Professor picked. The first one was "Original Sin: A Short Story" by Robert Penn Warren. I knew it had to do with a ghost but i wasn't sure what kind of ghost or whom's ghost. I learned that there is no right or wrong answer, everyone views the poems differently. As long as you can back up your opinion with straight evidence then it correct. So far I'm enjoying this course, I'm just waiting for the part were we make our own supernatural poem or short story. Supernatural is a wide field so there is so much to pick from.

       Christopher Maurice Brown was born May 5, 1989 in Tappahannock Virginia. He song in his church choir and performed in many school talent shows. At 15 years old he signed to Jive Records and came out with his first hit  song "Run it" followed by his self- titled album. He is most known for his singing, dancing, acting, painting and clothing line. He had some negative spotlight moments. In 2009, he assaulted his former girlfriend Rihanna, got into some fights with other artists. He has also been claimed to be apart of war shipping the devil and using some symbols to put it out in his song Fallen Angel in 2007. 

         "Fallen Angel" can be viewed many ways, i viewed it as him talking about a girl that's been hurt and the other way is speaking of the devil. When he say heavens gate, he can be symbolizing that when she allow him to love her she would be happy, "When i get to heavens gate, she would welcome me with her arms..." Now at the same the time if you play the song backwards there's a hidden message. "I'm singing and i'm poor, he swore to work with me, because we will release the fear about his day with Adam". Here it seems to be speaking about him selling his soul to the devil  because the devil said he would help him with fame.

        When you think of the title of the song "Fallen Angel, break it up. When Chris said angel, many people could take it different ways but the denotation (actual meaning) is One who manifests goodness, purity, and selflessness or  A guardian spirit or guiding influence. Angels are usually described as godly supernaturals that have wings. Now if someone is an angel, how can you fall? According to the bible, the devil was in heaven at one point but because he "disobeyed" "God" he was sent to be alone in a different world, that he made "Hell".

               According to La Vista Church Of Christ website, "Satan does not fight fairly... Many of his weapons are not easily identified...he uses cunning and deception to make sin look attractive and appealing". So with artists making songs that sound one way but played backwards can be a hidden message. Listening to the song "Fallen Angel" it seems like he's describing a girl that's been hurt so bad. she lost everything and feel alone. After listening to it backwards it sends chills down my spine. Chris is saying that he sold his soul to get fame. The devil(devil war- shippers) convinced him that he would become big and that's what he wanted.

         Chris brown was born Christopher Maurice Brown on May 5, 1989 in Tappahannock VA. He is an american Recording artist, dancer, and actor. He credits Michael Jackson for inspiring him with his music and dancing skills. In 2004 he was signed to Jive Records and just blew up from there. On November 29, 2005 he released his self titled album, which sold 157,000 copies the first week (i was one of that 157,000 to get it). He is an amazing song writer and that's why i chose this song out of all the others. His music always tells a story that everyone either been through or know someone who been through it. The song Fallen Angel can go both ways as being a love song to being a devil song.

                   Fallen Angel has a lot of symbols in it that gives you the mood of the song." She would welcome me with her arm, open wide and her smile would shadow me brighter than the sun". When he said this he was symbolizing the fact that she would be happy to see him and welcome him. The arms being opened and a smile on her face gesters that she is welcoming him. " Help her mend her broken wings" is showing that she been through so much and he just want to help and love her. Seeing her down hurts him so he also say "i couldn't take the pain of watching her fly away, so say that you'll stay". He don't want to let her go, He might have grown strong feelings for her and want to see where the relationship could go.

                                At the same time the song can be a symbol of his acceptance to the fact he is in the illuminate/ Freemasons. When he say "She" he is talking about Satan.

I chose the song "Fallen Angel" by Chris Brown for two reasons. I love his music and the theme fits supernatural. In this song he is basically saying that the girl he met is just so pure, beautiful and loving yet she been through so much. He wants to help her and show her that she can be loved again if she trust him with her heart. She's a fallen angel. Below is the song.. enjoy!
